San Niccolò is the area of Florence that has completely preserved its medieval atmosphere, resembling a small Tuscan borgo with still intact cobbled streets and massive walls of the 13th century.

One of the main attractions of the neighborhood is undoubtedly the Tower, or rather the Door. Built in 1324 and rising 115 feet high it was originally one of the doors through the pilgrims entered in Florence, such as Porta al Prato or Porta Romana. In summer it is possible to visit it with a guided tour.

San Niccolò is a labyrinth of narrow streets where you can get lost among the shops, typical food and wine bars. If you pay attention to the road signs and the typical buchette del vino you’ll see different kinds of street art details!

During the spring time the Giardino delle Rose is the perfect location for nature and outdoors lovers. After the sunset, San Niccolò shows its other side: the nightlife! There are many restaurants,Vinaìni, paninerie, clubs where you can dine, have appetizers, a beer and stop for a drink with friends. Overnight the neighborhood transforms itself and brings out its livelier soul, which is somewhat hidden during the day. In San Niccolò you can still breathe that air of Florentinity that elsewhere might maybe be a bit lost, a popular and vaguely folkloristic atmosphere, a meeting place for many young Florentines and people who come from outside the city.
